Backcountry Lodge Trips
Backcountry Skiing at its finest
Backcountry lodge trips in British Columbia are the ultimate way to experience some of the world’s best skiing. Backcountry ski lodges offer a unique experience away from crowded backcountry areas, providing unparalleled access to pristine powder and incredible terrain. With ideal weather, huge vertical, and long winters, BC is a skier’s paradise. Recently, backcountry skiing has surged in popularity, these remote lodges are situated in places that are hard to reach, offering their visitors solitude and adventure.
Every winter we enjoy setting up shop in one of these lodges where we can offer our clients a true “ski in, ski out” experience. We’ve found January and February to be prime months for a backcountry lodge trip as powder snow can be found on all aspects and the snow pack is generally well established. We staff these weeks with two guides, a cook and a custodian, so you can kick back and enjoy a real ski vacation. A backcountry lodge trip in BC wouldn’t be complete without a sauna, as it aids in recovery and allows your to relax after a great day of skiing or splitboarding.

Join us for an incredible week of ski touring at one of the BC’s best backcountry lodges. Our guided catered backcountry lodge weeks are designed to maximize your skiing or splitboarding time and spoil you with delicious meals prepared by our excellent backcountry cook. You can indulge in a nightly après ski sauna and even connect with work, family or watch a movie with Starling internet connection.
After the helicopter drops us off at the lodge, the magnitude of the terrain and the area that is just for us will set in. Our hut custodian will give us a hut orientation talk and you’ll get a hot lunch after you choose your double occupancy room. After lunch we’ll head out for an avalanche safety briefing/ companion rescue refresher and a quick lap to shake out the legs. The first day is always a busy one, but you’ll settle in to the routine of eat, ski, sauna, eat, sleep, quickly.
We’ll start each day with a cold breakfast followed by a hot breakfast and a lunch assembly table. Your guides will give you a weather and avalanche hazard forecast and the tour plan for the day. Generally, we aim to be boots and skins on by 0900 MT. The beauty of Meadow Lodge is you can basically drop a run out the front door.
We offer guests the option of longer and shorter days depending on how much vertical they want to ski. That ranges from 1000-2400m depending on the group. Our pace is that of a guided tour, but for those who want to push the vertical we can accommodate their penchant for powder as well as offer shorter days for guests who want go home early and relax after a great day of touring.
Golden Alpine Holidays lodges have a nice mix of tree and alpine skiing. There are pillows to pop as well as some excellent alpine bowls for the blue sky days. Cupola Mountain towers above the hut and is a great objective if the conditions are right. The lodges have saunas for après ski relaxation.
