Electromagnetic interference caused by your cellph Electromagnetic interference caused by your cellphone can cause significant problems with an avalanche transceiver search. The best practice for travelling in avalanche terrain with a cell phone is to turn it off and store it a minimum of 50cm from your avalanche transceiver (Realistically, all electronic devices and metallic objects should be kept 50cm away from your transceiver too.). That applies to coins, heated socks and gloves, watches, SOS devices, foil etc.

Modern day navigation, photos and connectivity create a challenge in managing electromagnetic interference—let’s face it, it’s convenient to look at your map/gps and it’s fun to snap shots of your friends. However a phone (even in airplane mode) will create a false signal or interfere with your transceiver’s ability to send and receive a signal. In far too many companion rescue scenarios, we’ve observed professionals and students receive “ghost” signals generated by cellphones. Close proximity burial rescues have been blown and people have wandered off in the wrong direction due to cellphone interference.

Having a system to manage electromagnetic interference is part of being a good ski touring partner. We’re working with @class4designs to create a simple and lightweight faraday pouch to reduce electromagnetic interference created by cellphones. Hit us up if you’d like to get one.

Excellent conditions for our fist supported Kooten Excellent conditions for our fist supported Kootenay Gravel tour of the season. Over three days we swam in five lakes, rode a mix of gravel, rail trails, wagon roads and highway, stayed in two campgrounds and covered over 360km. Mid-ride feed stops and riding with minimal gear made for an incredibly enjoyable experience on this loop. Booking private dates for groups up to six for the rest of the summer—hotel stays or camping available, with many options of pavement, gravel and trail to choose from🚵‍♀️
